America has finally begun her enlightenment!I must laugh at all of the «right-wing» pundits crawling over one another to give the latest theory on why the Republicans lost their majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives. They will offer reasons ranging from the unpopularity of G. W. Bush and his war on the Iraqi people to the concept that the Republicans weren't conservative enough! What they fail to see; indeed they likely fail to admit this to themselves, is incredibly obvious: America, while lagging behind the rest of the world, is becoming more progressive. While this has been going on for some time, it is now bearing fruit. Republicans are being defeated at historic levels in all regions of the nation. While here in the Northeast or on the West Coast that has been the order for years, the Midwest and Mountain States are now following «the coasts» into the light. Soon, the Republican Party will be limited to such backward areas as the rural South; as the people of an area become more educated, they will eschew racism, abandon their warlike and xenophobic ways, and the Republican Party will wither for want of support. America will become less divided politically, and a new era of harmony will dawn in Washington!
Many on the right delight in what they see as the impending death of President F. A. Castro Ruz of the Republic of Cuba. They feel that Cuba will become a «democracy» after «El Comandante's» death. By «democracy» they mean an American puppet. Let us first ponder whether President Castro is actually near death. This seems highly unlikely as his personal physician, Dr. Eugenio Selman, has given Cuba's leader a clean bill of health. Let us now, for the sake of argument, suppose that President Castro is near death. Would Cuba fall like a domino into American hands? Very doubtful, unless G. W. Bush sent in an invasion force, and even then there is no guarantee that America would succeed in her imperialist aims. The Cuban people will fiercely defend their island nation. Sans any imperialist interruption, Cuba has a succession order ensconced in her Constitution. First Vice President R. Castro Ruz would accede to the Presidency. The First Vice President is currently acting as Cuba's head of state, which he will relinquish upon the President's return to health. Should President Castro die in office, there will be an orderly transition to the First Vice President and nothing less. There will be no «popular» uprising. There will be no power «vacuum» or crisis. Cuba will remain peaceful and stable; all her transitions will be constitutional.
It is expected that in the near future we will see the dissolution of the United States, just as the 90's saw the dissolution of the former Soviet Union, and post-World War II saw the welcome breakup of the British Empire. Already there is a movement for the independence of Vermont. Texas, Califonia and the southwest will probably reunite with Mexico. The rest of America will probably break up along red/blue lines, with some states federating with others while the rest will opt to go it alone. Some of the more progressive states may choose to associate with Canada, either as provinces or as independent associate states. The map of North America will look more like that of Europe, with her plethora of small and meduim-sized countries.
You people amaze me. You ridicule Senator Lynch and vilify him. For your information, Senator Lynch is the best legislator to have served this state.
The Lynches, père et fils, have contributed greatly to the city they call home, New Brunswick, and to Middlesex County in toto. New Brunswick is a city on the move. A visit here will show new buildings under construction. Indeed, the State of New Jersey is a better place for their having served. It is why there is a bridge named in the elder John Lynch's honor.
Monmouth County's petty tyrants would receive an education observing the statesmen we are honored to have here in Middlesex County.
Many gloat over the unfortunate circumstance of the younger Lynch being investigated by Bush's Federal Bureau of Investigation. This is a politically motivated vendetta. John Lynch will be vindicated, and one day will return to public office. How fortuitous for our state if one day there is a Governor John Lynch!
What is progressive change? Progressive change means the end of America's fascism, imperialism, and warmongering.
The money spent on G. W. Bush's war machine will be brought home with the troops. The troops will be returned to civilian life and the money will be returned to domestic use like health care, education, the environment, women's issues, housing for the homeless, and ending poverty.
When the world sees that America has changed and she is no longer a threat to world peace, the other nations will be able to utilise their money to help their people, instead of defending them against American imperialism.
What G. W. Bush should do (He won't) is begin the immediate withdrawal of all troops from Afghanistan and Iraq, followed by a general withdrawal from all postings overseas. These withdrawals should be done not by redeploying troops at home, but by the gradual dissolution of our military forces.
If America renounces fascism and imperialism, she will not need military forces, because she will not be attacked. Canada and Mexico are not about to attack America, and no other nation is close enough to be a «threat». The western hemisphere could then become a «military free zone». Some weapons could be used in law enforcement. The rest would be scrapped and recycled to domestic products; a modern day equivalent to beating swords into plowshares.
The dollars now spent on the military industrial complex could then be spent on jobs, women's issues, healthcare, education, and the environment. Eventually, as we relegate capitalism and greed to the past, and everyone is provided for, even law enforcement can be phased out.
It is time to pull out of Iraq. With continued car bombings it is obvious that this can’t be won. Iraq is G. W. Bush's Viet Nam. Sure there were elections. But they haven’t formed a government yet. Why?LIKE THE SOUTH VIETNAMESE, THEY HAVEN'T THE WILL!This Iraqi leadership is going to survive as long as the unilateral American forces are there. Once the Americans leave, there will be civil war and Iraq will fall to the so-called «Insurgents».
The Sunni Triangle will be the first to go, followed by the Shiite south, which will bring Iran into the fighting. Last to fall will be the Kurdish regions, and that conflict will undoubtedly involve Turkey.
Like R. M. Nixon's war destabilized Southeast Asia, Bush's war is destabilizing the Middle East. A negotiated end to this war is the only way out. Support our troops. Bring them home NOW!
